Prized RB Bowman leaving Clemson; Florida next?
Freshman running back Demarkcus Bowman, who saw brief action in No. 1 Clemson’s first two games, is looking for a new school. Bowman entered the NCAA transfer portal after rushing nine times for 32 yards, third-most on the team for attempts and yards. The destination of the Lakeland, Fla., product is unknown, but 247 Sports reported that Florida could be a suitor after the Gators lost out to Bowman while recruiting him out of high school last year when he was widely rated among the top running backs in the country. Clemson coach Dabo Swinney has compared Bowman to former Clemson All-American C.J. Spiller. Bowman reportedly told coaches this week that he had decided to transfer, probably to a school in Florida. He told Tigernet.com that his grandfather died recently, “and that really hurt me … he was my closest family to me up there, and I just didn’t feel comfortable anymore. I just want to go to a school closer to home.” In a pair of one-sided wins over Wake Forest and The Citadel, eight running backs carried the ball for the Tigers, with Bowman third on the team in attempts and yards. Two-time ACC player of the year Travis Etienne is the top running back with 25 carries for 170 yards and one touchdown. The Tigers play host to Virginia on Saturday. –Field Level Media
