Report: Oklahoma extends Riley’s contract through 2025

Oklahoma football coach Lincoln Riley had two years tacked on to his deal and is now under contract through the 2025 season, The Athletic reported Tuesday.

The publication said that the deal with Riley was finalized in February after the heavily pursued coach turned down multiple offers to discuss NFL head-coaching vacancies.

Riley made $6.3 million in base salary in 2019, according to the USA Today coaches salary database. He took a paycut earlier this offseason amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The 36-year-old Riley has guided the Sooners to three straight College Football Playoff appearances. Oklahoma has lost in the semifinals on all three occasions.

Riley has a 36-6 record since replacing Bob Stoops as coach prior to the 2017 season. His clubs have gone 12-2 in all three seasons.

Riley has produced two Heisman Trophy-winning quarterbacks in Baker Mayfield (2017) and Kyler Murray (2018). Last season, quarterback Jalen Hurts finished second in voting behind LSU’s Joe Burrow.

Because of his success with quarterbacks, Riley figures to again be a target of NFL teams after this season.
