Sooners QB Mordecai, RB Pledger enter transfer portal
Oklahoma quarterback Tanner Mordecai and running back T.J. Pledger have entered the NCAA transfer portal.
Mordecai made his announcement Sunday and Pledger followed suit Monday.
Both players will presumably skip the No. 6 Sooners’ Cotton Bowl appearance against No. 7 Florida on Dec. 30.
As a redshirt sophomore in 2020, Mordecai completed 32 of 40 passes for 395 yards with two touchdowns and one interception in four games.
“Thank you OU football and sooner nation for the past 3 years,” Mordecai tweeted. “Forever grateful for my time here. I have now entered the transfer portal. Excited to see what God has in store for me.”
A four-star prospect in the Class of 2018, Mordecai appeared in 12 games for Oklahoma and completed 50 of 70 passes for 639 yards, four TDs and one interception. Redshirt freshman Spencer Rattler won the QB competition in 2020, and the Sooners last week signed the No. 1 dual-threat quarterback in the nation, Caleb Williams of Washington, D.C., to their 2021 class.
During his junior season in 2020, Pledger rushed 95 times for 451 yards and five touchdowns and caught nine passes for 77 yards in nine games.
“Thank you Sooner Nation for an amazing 3 years,” Pledger posted on Twitter. “Thank you Coach (Lincoln) Riley and Coach (DeMarco) Murray for believing in me this year. I have decided to enter the Transfer Portal. GODSPEED.”
Also a four-star prospect in 2018, Pledger rushed for 695 yards and six touchdowns and caught 11 passes for 89 yards in three seasons in Norman.
Both players will have immediate eligibility at another school based on a waiver granted to all Division I athletes amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
