Texas LB Ossai declares for NFL draft
Texas linebacker Joseph Ossai said Monday he is opting out of the Longhorns’ bowl game and declaring for the 2021 NFL Draft.
The 6-foot-4, 253-pound junior registered 5.5 sacks, 15.5 tackles for loss and three forced fumbles in nine games this season.
“I’ve been blessed to have the opportunity to wear the Burnt Orange for the last three years now and wouldn’t trade that time for anything in the world,” Ossai wrote on Twitter. “Now that our regular season has ended, I have made the tough decision to go ahead and begin to prepare for the 2021 NFL Draft.”
Ossai’s numbers over three seasons in Austin included 165 tackles, 30.5 tackles for loss, 11 sacks, two interceptions and five forced fumbles.
Ossai is at least the fifth Texas player to announce he won’t participate in a bowl game, joining senior defensive lineman Ta’Quon Graham, junior defensive back Caden Sterns, senior safety Chris Brown and junior offensive tackle Samuel Cosmi.
The Longhorns finished the regular season with a 6-3 record, including 5-3 in the Big 12.
