Texas WR Omeire to miss season with torn ACL

Texas Longhorns freshman wide receiver Troy Omeire will miss the 2020 campaign because of a torn ACL, the school announced Sunday.

Omeire, a four-star recruit from in-state Sugar Land, sustained the injury on a non-contact play during Saturday’s scrimmage. He was expected to compete for significant playing time this season as a possible replacement for departed wideouts Collin Johnson and Devin Duvernay.

The 6-foot-3, 206-pound Omeire chose Texas over offers from LSU, Alabama, Ohio State, Oklahoma and Texas A&M, according to the Dallas Morning News. He was ranked No. 32 among wide receivers in the Class of 2020, according to Rivals.

Texas is scheduled to kick off its season Sept. 12 against UTEP.
