Utah State dismisses starting QB Shelley from team
Utah State dismissed starting quarterback Jason Shelley on Sunday night for a violation of team rules.
Shelley, a junior, has started each game in the Aggies’ 0-4 start, completing 51 of 99 passes for 420 yards, with two touchdowns and two interceptions. This was his first season at Utah State after transferring in the summer from Utah, where he played in 19 games, starting five, over three seasons.
Interim head coach Frank Maile will not comment further on Shelley’s dismissal, the school said.
Maile stepped in for Gary Andersen, who was fired after three games. Utah State lost 35-16 against Fresno State in Maile’s debut on Saturday, when backup quarterback Andrew Peasley reportedly was unavailable. Third-stringer Cooper Legas, a freshman, has not taken a snap.
Utah State plays at Wyoming on Thursday night.
