Christian Turner scored two touchdowns and Sam Hartman threw for a touchdown and ran for another as Wake Forest whipped visiting Norfolk State 41-16 on Saturday afternoon in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Hartman threw for 244 yards, completing 17 of 25 passes without an interception in the first-ever meeting between the teams. He scored Wake Forest’s first points on a 4-yard run in the first quarter.
The Demon Deacons (2-0) produced 413 yards of total offense.

Norfolk State scored first on Josh Nardone’s 41-yard field goal. The Spartans appeared likely to score the last points of the first half as well when Carter threw 10 yards to Rayquan Smith for a touchdown with 1:05 left.
But the Demon Deacons clicked in a hurry-up offense and converted on Nick Sciba’s 46-yard field goal to take a 24-9 advantage into halftime.
Wake Forest tacked on 10 more points in the first four minutes of the second half. Hartman’s 64-yard pass to Jaquarii Roberson came on the first snap of the second half.
Roberson finished as the game’s top receiver with four catches for 97 yards.
Wake Forest’s Christian Beal-Smith was the top rusher in the game, picking up 60 yards on nine carries. That included a 4-yard touchdown run early in the second quarter.
Turner’s touchdown runs came from 1 yard out in the second quarter and from 7 yards out in the third quarter.
Wake Forest didn’t score in the fourth quarter. Norfolk State capped the scoring on Carter’s 3-yard pass to Anthony Williams with 6:24 to play.
It marked Wake Forest’s second lopsided win in as many games against a team from Norfolk, Va., having opened the season with a 42-10 defeat of Old Dominion.
The Demon Deacons are 16-0 this century against FCS opponents.
