The Indianapolis Colts are looking at veteran Byron Leftwich to be a backup and mentor for their top draft pick, presumably Andrew Luck of Stanford.
According to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, Colts offensive coordinator Bruce Arians, who coached Leftwich in Pittsburgh, likes the veteran's style and ability to teach the game, something that is invaluable when breaking in a young quarterback.
The question here is what happens with Drew Stanton, whom the Colts acquired from the Jets to be the No. 2 quarterback. Stanton voiced his displeasure with the Jets acquisition of Tim Tebow that dropped him to third-string. He was then dealt to the Colts. But if Leftwich comes aboard in Indy, Stanton could conceivably fall to third again.
