La'el Collins' draft journey was as tumultuous as any in recent memory, but his roller coaster ride appears to be finally smoothing over.
Today, the undrafted free-agent agreed to a 3-year, 1.65M deal with the Dallas Cowboys. Collins was in Dallas last night being courted by owner and general manager Jerry Jones before agreeing to a deal on Thursday.
The potential first-round pick saw his name fall down draft boards after the murder of his ex-girlfriend Brittany Mills and his subsequent connection. Mills, whose unborn child died a week after her death, was believed to have consummated the child with Collins, though a paternity test revealed he was not the father.
Collins now joins the newly-anointed best offensive line in Dallas, where he is likely to play guard. To go with Byron Jones and Randy Gregory, the Cowboys have secured three first-round talents in the 2015 draft for the price of one.
