Derek Anderson apologized for his postgame meltdown on Monday night.
The Arizona Cardinals quarterback, who will keep his starting job despite the lousy outing in a 27-6 loss to the San Francisco 49ers, said he was out of character when he blew up to questions about why he and guard Deuce Lutui appeared to find humor on the sideline late in the game.
“Let's try this in a manner that doesn't end up all over YouTube,” Anderson said after practice, according to the Arizona Republic. “I'd like to apologize for my actions after the game. There's a more professional manner I could have handled that. I wasn't raised that way. My mom and my dad didn't raise me to act like that in times of adversity. I obviously was very frustrated by what happened during the game, and I let the emotions get the best of me.”
Anderson said he laid low on Tuesday after the game, and joked that he thought about going to get a Christmas tree.
“I'll wait until Friday for that,” he said. “I didn't want it to catch fire in my house.
“I'm moving forward and trying to put that in our past and focus on what we have this week, which is a big game for our team.”
It’s hard to say anything is big for the Cardinals moving forward, but it could be big for Anderson. If he doesn’t start playing better, he’s going to be hard-pressed to hold onto the job much longer.
