Struggling New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith's temper bubbled over.
"F--- you!" Smith yelled at a fan following a 24-17 loss to the Detroit Lions.
Smith apologized. He wouldn't say what the fan said to him, but said it had nothing to do with fans shouting for him to be benched in favor of veteran Michael Vick.
Smith lost two fumbles and was intercepted once.
"I want to apologize if any kid saw me saying any negative remarks walking off the field," Smith said. "I kind of let my temper get the best of me in that situation. It's part of my learning process. I have to get better with that. I have to let that stuff roll off my back, but today I didn't do well with that."
Are the Jets going to bench Smith?
"I'm not going to replace him," Jets coach Rex Ryan said. "I feel good about Geno."
