A year ago, the NFL had to appease both the New York Giants and New York Jets when it came to the opening weekend of the season.
The co-tenants of the New Meadowlands Stadium both wanted to open the doors to their shiny new home on Kickoff Weekend. The NFL came up with a solution as the Giants hosted the Carolina Panthers on Sunday and stadium crews worked overnight to prepare the building for a game the following night on “Monday Night Football” between the Jets and Baltimore Ravens.
There won’t be a fight over who gets to open at home first this season if rumors swirling are true. Speculation is widespread in New York that the Jets could play host to the Giants on the opening Sunday of the season, Sept. 11. The date will obviously be the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. Some believe the game could be selected as the prime time game for NBC.
Stay tuned. We’ll know soon.
