Jason Hanson isn’t going to be the Detroit Lions kicker forever.

And you have to wonder if he’s made his final kick for the franchise. The 40-year-old, who has scored 1,890 points in his career for the Lions, will be placed on injured reserve today with a knee injury. Dave Rayner will replace him for the remainder of the season, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Hanson missed the last three games with a sprained MCL suffered in his right knee – his kicking leg. He’d been testing the knee and hoping to make a return soon. Hanson has played in 295 career games for the Lions and needs just one more to tie Bruce Matthews for the NFL record for the most games played with one organization. Matthews accomplished the feat with the Houston/Tennessee.
