New York Jets first-round safety Calvin Pryor has had a limited impact.
“He hasn’t had the impact necessarily that I think all of us had expected,” Jets coach Rex Ryan said. “Quite honestly, our defense has been played a little bit differently than we anticipated. I think we’ve had to make some of those adjustments along the way. It hasn’t gone according to plan, so to speak.”
Pryor has 35 tackles, a half-sack, two pass deflections with one dropped interception.
“He’s playing pretty well,” defensive coordinator Dennis Thurman said. “Sometimes you just don’t have opportunities. If you don’t have the opportunities, you can’t manufacture them. That’s when you break structure of your scheme and your system. You can’t just go looking for hits and trying to have impact that way.”
Added Pryor: “I look myself in the mirror and I have to step it up. I have to play football the way I know how to play football.”
