Under normal circumstances, you would think the New York Giants would love to involve Lawrence Taylor, one of the greats in franchise history, an opportunity to help promote New York/New Jersey in its bid for the 2014 Super Bowl.
In light of Taylor’s arrest on rape and prostitution charges, that can’t happen. At a news conference to unveil the pitch by the Giants and New York Jets to land the event, Giants owner John Mara didn’t even want to field questions on the subject.
"I don't want to get into that," Mara said, according to ESPN New York. "It is obviously very sad and disheartening. But beyond that, I don't want to make any further statement on it."
One of Taylor’s former teammates, and a Super Bowl hero, Ottis Anderson was there. He did his best to support Taylor.
“Before you voice your opinion, let's get all the facts," Anderson. "We don't know."
"In a situation like this, any player knows that his former teammate has his back. He is dealing with so much that you just try not to be another distraction to him but he knows we got his back."
