The loss by the Detroit Lions was costly in more than just the loss column.
Running back Jahvid Best was sidelined with a concussion, a potentially big blow to a ground attack that has struggled for most of the season. Best left the game with a concussion in the fourth quarter, the second of the season for him. He also suffered a head injury during training camp.
He had a rough day running against the San Francisco 49ers – 37 yards on 12 carries – and he had to deal with concussion issues as a junior at Cal, according to the Detroit News. The Lions had two other players miss the game with concussions: tight end Tony Scheffler and linebacker Justin Durant.
The loss of Best for a while could be troubling for the Lions, who aren’t going to be as successful with quarterback Matthew Stafford when they are one-dimensional.
