Minnesota Vikings coach Leslie Frazier took the suspense out of the decision on who will start at quarterback Sunday against the Carolina Panthers.
It’ll be Matt Cassel, not Christian Ponder even though Ponder has recovered from a fractured rib.
“I think it’s always tough when you make a change at quarterback,” Frazier told Minnesota reporters. “You have to take a lot of factors into it when you’re doing that. You don’t make those decisions lightly and we didn’t. We’ll see how it plays out. At the start of this ballgame, we’ll see how Matt does. We’ll see how it plays out over time.”
Eventually, the quarterback is expected to be Josh Freeman once he knows the offense after the former Tampa Bay Buccaneers starter signed a one-year, $2 million contract.
“We don’t see him being able to play this ballgame yet, based on where we are and where he is with our offense,” Frazier said.
That will change soon enough, though.
