Justin Thomas named PGA 2K21 cover athlete

Justin Thomas adorns the cover of PGA 2K21, the golf video game scheduled to be released Aug. 21.

"Being chosen to be the first-ever cover athlete for the premiere @PGATOUR2K game is a tremendous honor," Thomas said in a Q&A with the PGA Tour. "I'm excited to join the 2K family and challenge players everywhere on the digital links."

The 12-time PGA Tour winner grew up in Kentucky and said he spent a lot of hours in the winter months mastering his video game skills.

In the past two months, the 27-year-old Thomas said he's gotten back into video games "a little bit," mostly playing NBA 2K20 and PGA 2K21, the latter of which he's been part of the beta testing.

"I play with Smylie Kaufman a good bit, Bud Cauley as well. I know Bubba [Watson] is a big gamer, but he's been having a lot of family time lately," Thomas said.

EA Sports used facial scanning technology to bring the likeness of 12 professional golfers to life. The game features 15 popular courses, including TPC Sawgrass, and Thomas takes the virtual course wearing his licensed, tournament-used gear.
