49ers bench QB Garoppolo at halftime
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo was benched at halftime Sunday after struggling badly against the Miami Dolphins.
Garoppolo completed 7 of 17 passes for 77 yards and two interceptions as the 49ers fell behind 30-7 at the half. He was replaced by C.J. Beathard to start the third quarter.
A nagging high-ankle sprain might have contributed to Garoppolo’s struggles. He played for the first time since Week 2 because of the injury, which affected the right leg on which he plants to make throws.
Cameras caught 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan speaking with Garoppolo after an interception near the end of the half. Shanahan appeared to say that he was “going with C.J.” in the second half, to which Garoppolo nodded and said “OK.”
