49ers fear DE Ansah lost for season
The San Francisco 49ers signed free agent defensive end Ziggy Ansah two weeks ago in hopes of bolstering a pass rush that lost defensive end Nick Bosa and tackle Solomon Thomas to season-ending knee injuries in Week 2.
Now, it appears they’ll be looking to sign someone to replace Ansah.
The 31-year-old, playing in his second game with the 49ers, suffered an arm injury during San Francisco’s 25-20 home loss to Philadelphia on Sunday night. After the game, head coach Kyle Shanahan said that team doctors fear Ansah suffered a torn biceps. If an MRI exam confirms a biceps tear, Ansah would undergo season-ending surgery.
Ansah did not registered any tackles, sacks, pressures or hurries in his two games with the club. The fifth overall pick by Detroit in 2013, Ansah has 50.5 career sacks in 93 games with the Lions (2013-18), Seattle Seahawks (2019) and 49ers.
The 49ers also placed defensive end Dee Ford on injured reserve with a back injury, meaning he will miss at least three games.
San Francisco is 2-2 and has games at home against Miami and the Los Angeles Rams, followed by a game at New England to round out October.
