49ers-Packers game is on, no new positives reported

Albeit with rosters dented by COVID-19, the San Francisco 49ers and Green Bay Packers are set to play Thursday night.

According to multiple reports, the NFL gave the game the green light on Thursday morning when no new positive tests were reported by either team. The Packers arrived in California on Wednesday afternoon in the middle of a week that could be classified as abnormal in terms of preparation.

The 49ers weren’t exactly on Easy Street this week themselves.

Green Bay was forced into virtual meetings and limited access to the team facility on Monday when a positive COVID-19 test was returned by rookie running back A.J. Dillon. Contact tracing led to running back Jamaal Williams and linebacker Kamal Martin being ruled out for this week.

NFL facilities were closed Tuesday for Election Day, but each team was allowed a walkthrough workout.

The 49ers did not meet Wednesday and were forced to close the team facility because of a COVID-19 outbreak of their own.

The 49ers placed wide receiver Kendrick Bourne on the reserve/COVID-19 list Wednesday afternoon after he tested positive. Three others were placed on the list due to close contact with Bourne, the team later announced Wednesday, and will not play Thursday: left tackle Trent Williams and wide receivers Deebo Samuel and Brandon Aiyuk. Samuel already was out with a hamstring injury.
