49ers to play next two home games in Arizona
The San Francisco 49ers will play their next two home games in Glendale, Ariz.
The 49ers announced Monday that they have come to an agreement with the NFL and the Cardinals to play their Week 13 and Week 14 home games at State Farm Stadium. San Francisco’s home games will be against the Buffalo Bills (on Monday) and Washington Football Team (Dec. 13), respectively.
“The Cardinals organization, State Farm Stadium and League officials have been supportive and accommodating as we work through the many logistical issues involved in relocating NFL games,” the 49ers wrote in a statement.
Niners CEO Jed York took to Twitter to publicly thank Cardinals president Michael Bidwill for his team’s assistance.
The need for a temporary home was a result of Santa Clara County officials on Saturday banning professional, college and youth sports games and practices through Dec. 21. The 49ers’ home field is Levi’s Stadium, which is in Santa Clara County.
The strict health mandate was announced due to the “severe surge” of COVID-19 in a county that is also home to college programs Stanford and San Jose State.
The mandate goes into effect on Monday.
The 49ers’ last home game of the season is Jan. 3 versus the Seattle Seahawks.
