49ers WR Bourne activated from COVID-19 list

The San Francisco 49ers activated wide receiver Kendrick Bourne from the reserve/COVID-19 list Friday and he will be available to play Sunday at New Orleans.

It has been a roller coaster couple of weeks for Bourne, who missed last Thursday’s 34-17 loss to the Green Bay Packers after testing positive on Nov. 4.

He was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list after that initial test, but received negative results the following two days and was activated.

The cycle started again Monday after another positive test landed him back on the reserve/COVID-19 list. He did not practice Wednesday or Thursday but was cleared to practice on Friday following multiple negative results, ESPN reported.

“Positive, negative, negative, positive, negative,” coach Kyle Shanahan said Wednesday. “Those things happen, I guess, and we’re all just dealing with it.”

Bourne, 25, has 25 receptions for 352 yards and one touchdown in eight games this season.

In 51 career games with the 49ers since 2017, Bourne has 113 catches for 1,454 yards and 10 scores.

The 49ers (4-5) have lost two straight heading into Sunday’s road game against the Saints (6-2).
