Arizona Cardinals sign OL Branden Bowen

The Arizona Cardinals signed offensive lineman Branden Bowen the team announced Wednesday. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The 6-foot-7, 315-pound Bowen, who played guard and tackle at Ohio State, was signed as an undrafted rookie in 2020 by the Carolina Panthers before being released during final cuts.

In 2019, Bowen started at right tackle for the Buckeyes in 13 games and was named second-team All-Big Ten.

He missed a portion of the 2017 season and all of 2018 because of a broken left leg that needed numerous surgeries to mend.

Bowen, 24, could bolster the Cardinals’ offensive line, which is in flux. Kevin Beachum, who started last season at right tackle, is a free agent. Josh Jones, who the Cardinals selected in the third round of the 2020 draft, is also expected to compete for a spot.

Marcus Gilbert, who sat out the 2020 season due to COVID-19 concerns, has a year left on his contract.

Guards Max Garcia and J.R. Sweezy are free agents.
