Bears working from home after positive test; Panthers back at practice

The Chicago Bears are working virtually on Thursday because of a positive COVID-19 test.

The team did not specify whether a player or coach had tested positive.

“The club has elected to pause all in-person football activities today and close Halas Hall,” a team statement said. “Instead, all meetings will be conducted virtually. The individual who tested positive has been contacted and has already begun self-isolation. We are working with the NFL medical experts to identify close contacts and follow the league’s guidance. The health and safety of our team, players and staff are the highest priority.”

The Bears (5-7) are scheduled to host the Houston Texans (4-8) on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the Carolina Panthers are practicing Thursday after returning no new positive tests, The Athletic reported.

The team put eight players on the reserve/COVID-19 list this week. NFL chief medical officer Dr. Allen Sills said in a conference call the positive tests were due to players gathering outside the team facility.

The Panthers and Denver Broncos are slated to meet Sunday in Charlotte in a matchup of 4-8 teams.
