Bills release WR John Brown, DL Quinton Jefferson

The Buffalo Bills cut wide receiver John Brown and defensive lineman Quinton Jefferson on Wednesday, clearing more than $14 million in salary cap space.

Brown, 30, signed a three-year, $27 million deal in March 2019. His release saves $7.93 million in cap space and leaves $1.6 million in dead money.

Jefferson, 27, signed a two-year, $13.5 million deal in March 2020. His departure clears $6.5 million in cap space.

Brown caught 33 passes for 458 yards and three touchdowns in nine games with the AFC East champions in 2020. He set career highs in receptions (72) and receiving yards (1,060) in his first season with Buffalo in 2019, adding six touchdown grabs in 15 starts.

A third-round draft pick by Arizona in 2014, Brown has 320 career catches for 4,748 yards and 31 TDs in 96 games with the Cardinals (2014-17), Baltimore Ravens (2018) and Bills.

Jefferson suited up for all 16 games last year with four starts, finishing with 23 tackles, six quarterback hits, three sacks, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery.

A fifth-round selection by Seattle in 2016, Jefferson has 82 tackles and 10.5 sacks in 55 games (28 starts) with the Seattle Seahawks (2016-19) and Bills.
