Broncos: Bradley Chubb returns, Garett Bolles to COVID list

The Denver Broncos returned from their bye week Monday with a blend of good and bad news.

Pro Bowl pass rusher Bradley Chubb practiced for the first time since injuring his left ankle in Week 2.

Left tackle Garett Bolles did not practice Monday after being placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list, head coach Vic Fangio told reporters.

Chubb, 25, was placed on injured reserve on Sept. 22 after arthroscopic surgery to remove a bone spur from his left ankle.

The outside linebacker was a Pro Bowl selection last season when he had 7.5 sacks in 14 games. He was injured in the second quarter of Denver’s Week 2 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars and has one tackle this season.

Chubb has 124 tackles, 46 quarterback hits, 20.5 sacks and four forced fumbles in 35 games (all starts) since being drafted No. 5 overall in 2018.

Bolles, 29, has started eight games this season and 71 of the Broncos’ 74 games since being drafted in the first round (20th overall) in 2017.

Fangio said Bolles is vaccinated, meaning he could return with two negative tests taken 24 hours apart.

The Broncos (5-5) host the Los Angeles Chargers (6-4) on Sunday.
