Broncos to put starting RT Wilkinson (leg) on IR
Denver Broncos starting right tackle Elijah Wilkinson is expected to be placed on injured reserve with a fractured shinbone, adding to the team’s injuy woes.
The team put Jurrell Casey (biceps) and linebacker Austin Calitro (hamstring) on IR Monday following their loss Sunday to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Also on the list are cornerback A.J. Bouye, linebacker Mark Barron, defensive lineman Dre’Mont Jones, linebacker Von Miller and wide receiver Courtland Sutton.
This season, a trip to injured reserve means a player must miss at least three games before he can return to play. Wilkinson started all three games for Denver (0-3) and didn’t miss a snap.
Demar Dotson is Wilkinson’s backup on the depth chart.
Wilkinson, 25, has played in 39 games (22 starts) over three seasons in Denver.
Coach Vic Fangio did have some good news on the injury front on Tuesday. He said running back Phillip Lindsay (toe) is “close” to returning and that starting quarterback Drew Lock (shoulder) is “doing good in his rehab” but definitely will miss Thursday night’s game against the New York Jets.
