Browns not trading Myles Garrett, getting close look at Shedeur Sanders

INDIANAPOLIS — Quarterbacks are part of the reason Browns general manager Andrew Berry is revved up for the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine.

He already met with Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders and Cleveland’s personnel boss didn’t walk away from the brief powwow without setting up a second session.

“He’s a fantastic individual. Really smart, driven,” Berry said Tuesday at the Indianapolis Convention Center. “It’s been a pleasure to spend time with him … looking forward to spending more over the next couple of weeks.”

Adding to the roster is the focus for Berry and head coach Kevin Stefanski, who publicly responded to defensive end Myles Garrett’s trade request by further clarifying the Browns have no interest in trading him.

“I understand the questions. Our stance really has not changed,” Berry said, adding the team can’t imagine a situation where “not having Myles” is best for the Browns.

Sanders, the son of Colorado coach and former NFL cornerback Deion Sanders, is not expected to work out with quarterbacks this week. He opted to wait for the school’s pro day.

The Browns are likely to attend and get a first-hand look at Heisman Trophy winning cornerback-wide receiver Travis Hunter. He is expected to run routes and catch passes. Hunter is working out with defensive backs this week, but the two-way dynamo is a wide receiver on the Browns’ draft board.

“In terms of Travis Hunter, cornerback or receiver, the answer is yes,” Berry said. “He can play both, I think that’s what makes him special. I think receiver primarily first but I think what makes him a bit of a unicorn is the fact that he can do it at a high level.”

Cleveland enters the draft with the No. 2 overall pick and little certainty at quarterback.

Deshaun Watson required a second surgery on his ruptured Achilles and is not expected to play this season. Jameis Winston can become a free agent next month.
