Bucs put CB Richard Sherman (calf) on IR

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers put cornerback Richard Sherman on injured reserve Wednesday with a Grade 2 calf strain.

He’ll have to miss at least three games.

The Bucs did not announce a corresponding move and currently have two opening on their 53-man roster. Cornerback Rashard Robinson went on IR last week and his spot remains unfilled. However, the Bucs have three players who have returned to practice while on IR who are closer to getting activated.

Sherman, 33, sustained the injury while warming up for last week’s game against the Washington Football Team. He was set to make his fourth start since joining the team in late September.

The 33-year-old Stanford product has appeared in 142 career games, starting 136, in 10-plus seasons with the Seattle Seahawks, San Francisco 49ers and Buccaneers. He has 36 interceptions, five forced fumbles and seven fumble recoveries.

Tampa Bay has been beset by injuries in its secondary this season. Sean Murphy-Bunting (elbow), Carlton Davis (quadriceps) and Dee Delaney (concussion) all have missed time in recent weeks. Murphy-Bunting, who dislocated his elbow in Week 1, returned to practice this week.
