Cardinals sign veteran S Ward to practice squad
The Arizona Cardinals signed two-time Pro Bowl safety T.J. Ward to their practice squad Thursday.
Numbers were needed at the position with starters Budda Baker (thumb surgery) and Jalen Thompson (ankle) out with injuries and backup Chris Banjo dealing with a hamstring issue.
Ward, 33, last played in the NFL in 2017 with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers but could make his Cardinals debut this Sunday against the Carolina Panthers.
A second-round pick by Cleveland in 2010, Ward played four seasons with the Browns and three with the Denver Broncos before signing with the Bucs. He made the Pro Bowl in 2013 and 2014 and won Super Bowl 50 with the Broncos.
In 107 career games (99 starts), he has 607 tackles, 8.5 sacks, eight interceptions and four fumble recoveries.
To make room for Ward, the Cardinals released offensive lineman Rick Leonard.
