Chargers coach Lynn won’t rule out Taylor in Week 4

Chargers quarterback Tyrod Taylor could return to the Los Angeles lineup on Sunday at Tampa Bay.

Head coach Anthony Lynn said on Monday that he was not in position to say Taylor wouldn’t play Week 4 against the Buccaneers.

Taylor started Week 1 at Cincinnati but injured his ribs. Prior to Week 2, Taylor received a pain-killing injection resulting in lung damage. He missed the past two games but was not placed on injured reserve.

“My primary concern right now is getting that young man healthy — getting him healthy and then we’ll go from there,” Lynn said.

Lynn said he would know more about the status of wide receiver Mike Williams (hamstring) following treatment on Monday.

The Chargers allowed 21 quarterback pressures in Justin Herbert’s second career start Sunday. The Chargers lost 21-16 to the Carolina Panthers.

“There’s times we didn’t handle it as well as I would have liked,” Lynn said of Carolina’s pressure. “For the most part, I thought we handled it well.”

Lynn said Herbert has held his own and displayed growth through two games.

“We wouldn’t have taken him at 6 (overall) if we didn’t think he could play in this league,” Lynn said. “I thought he had great confidence, showed great poise.”
