Chargers ink first-rounders Herbert, Murray to deals

The Los Angeles Chargers signed first-round picks Justin Herbert and Kenneth Murray to their rookie contracts on Saturday.

Both players acknowledged their signings on social media. Herbert posted a photo on Instagram of himself putting pen to paper while wearing a mask at the team’s facility. He added a caption, “It’s official. Ready to get to work! @chargers #BoltUp”

Murray wrote on Twitter, “Blessed is an understatement! Nothing with God! Just the beginning… #BoltUp”

As the sixth overall pick in April, Herbert’s contract is slotted at about $26.6 million over four years. Like all first-round picks, his deal has a fifth-year team option.

A four-year starter at Oregon, Herbert threw for 10,541 yards and 95 touchdowns against just 23 interceptions, including 3,471 yards, 32 touchdowns and six picks as a senior in 2019.

Murray, for whom the Chargers traded up to draft 23rd overall, has a slotted contract worth just under $13 million over four years, along with a fifth-year team option.

The linebacker played three years at Oklahoma, piling up 335 tackles, including 37 for loss, nine sacks and six passes defensed.
