Colts place DT Buckner on reserve/COVID-19 list

The Indianapolis Colts placed defensive tackle DeForest Buckner on the reserve/COVID-19 list Wednesday.

The list is for players who have either tested positive for the coronavirus or come in close contact with an infected person. Although teams do not disclose the reason, if a player tests positive, he would be quarantined at least 10-14 days and would miss Sunday’s game; players placed on the list for close contact undergo five days of quarantine and testing, but potentially can become eligible the morning of the game.

Losing the 6-foot-7, 300-pound lineman would be a huge blow for the Colts (7-3) as they prepare to host running back Derrick Henry and the AFC South rival Tennessee Titans (7-3) on Sunday.

Buckner has started all 10 games in his first season with Indianapolis and has 41 tackles, 16 quarterback hits, 2.5 sacks and a fumble recovery.

Buckner, 26, spent his first four seasons with the San Francisco 49ers, who drafted him seventh overall in 2016. He made the Pro Bowl in 2018 and has 304 tackles and 31 sacks in 73 career games (all starts).
