Cowboys CB Diggs (foot) out 4-6 weeks; CB Awuzie activated

Rookie cornerback Trevon Diggs is out 4-6 weeks with a broken bone in his foot and the Dallas Cowboys could be without him for the rest of the regular season.

The Cowboys did get one back Tuesday, activating CB Chidobe Awuzie from injured reserve.

Diggs, who also broke his foot in October 2018 at Alabama, will not need surgery at this time, ESPN reported. He is wearing a stabilizing boot and expected to recover by the end of the regular season.

But with the Cowboys flailing under a mounting pile of injuries, it’s unlikely Dallas will rush the second-round pick back onto the field if their late-season games are meaningless in terms of playoff chances.

Diggs was hurt late in Sunday’s loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Dallas is without quarterback Dak Prescott, left tackle Tyron Smith and right tackle La’el Collins, who all suffered season-ending injuries.

Awuzie injured his hamstring in Week 2 and was put on IR on Sept. 25. The Cowboys opened his 21-day practice window on Oct. 22. With a bye this week, expectations are that Awuzie will be ready to play in Week 11 against the Minnesota Vikings.

Saivion Smith was promoted from the practice squad for the Week 9 game with the Steelers. He entered the game when Diggs was injured.

The Cowboys are not practicing during the bye week.
