Cowboys place DL Crawford on COVID list

The Dallas Cowboys made a pair of moves with their defensive line on Wednesday, during the team’s bye week.

Dallas placed defensive end Tyrone Crawford on the Reserve/COVID-10 list. The list is for players who either test positive for COVID-19, or who have come in contact with some one who has. The NFL does not specify which when a player is tagged with that status.

Crawford is the second Cowboys player in as many weeks to be placed on the COVID-19 list, joining quarterback Andy Dalton who missed Sunday’s home game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Pittsburgh won at Dallas, and since then have added four players to its own COVID-19 list including starting quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. The four players were deemed to be high-risk contacts with Steelers tight end Vance McDonald, who tested positive on Monday.

Dallas also claimed rookie defensive end Ron’Dell Carter off waivers from the Indianapolis Colts, presumably to fill in for Crawford.

Carter signed as an undrafted free agent with the Cowboys this season out of James Madison. He had been on the Cowboys’ practice squad before signing with the Colts, but he did not appear in any games for Indianapolis.

Crawford had appeared in all nine games this season for Dallas, with two starts. He has just five tackles and no sacks in 2020.

Crawford, 30, is in his eighth season with the Cowboys after being drafted in the third round out of Boise State in 2012. He has appeared in 105 games with 78 starts, and has 185 career tackles and 23 sacks including a career-high 5.5 in 2018.

Dallas (2-7) does not play again until Nov. 22 at Minnesota.
