Cowboys place RG Martin on injured reserve

The Dallas Cowboys placed six-time Pro Bowl right guard Zack Martin on injured reserve with a calf injury, likely ending his season.

Monday’s transaction requires Martin to miss at least the next three games by NFL rule, making him eligible to return for the Week 16 game against the Philadelphia Eagles on Dec. 27.

Martin, a four-time All-Pro, will miss just the fourth game of his seven-year career when the Cowboys (3-8) take on the Ravens (6-5) in Baltimore on Tuesday night. He also sat out the Week 7 game this year with a concussion and missed two games in 2018.

Martin, 30, initially injured his left calf during practice on Nov. 16. He aggravated the injury during the opening possession of the Week 12 loss against the Washington Football Team.

The veteran’s versatility will be missed. According to the Dallas Morning News, Martin is the only offensive lineman in the NFL this season to play at least 500 snaps at one position and 100 at another: 506 at right guard and 121 at right tackle.

The Cowboys drafted Martin with the 16th overall pick in 2014 and signed him to a six-year, $84 million extension in June 2018.
