Cowboys pleased with Dak Prescott’s progress

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is making progress in his bid to return from a compound fracture and dislocation of his right ankle.

“Where we sit right now, we couldn’t be happier,” Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said, via The Athletic. “I’m sure you all get peeks out on the field. He’s just doing an amazing job. His work ethic, of course, it’s contagious with his teammates.

“One of the things that stuck out about Dak’s leadership last year is he was right back in the facility right after he was hurt. His leadership is elite. And of course he’s doing that on the field, and he’s just making a tremendous amount of progress. We feel like he’ll be 110 percent ready to go.”

Cowboys coach Mike McCarthy also said he was pleased with what he’s seen after attending Prescott’s workout on Saturday.

“I was very impressed with his progress,” McCarthy said. “Just coming off the type of injury. His footwork, he’s doing all the normal movements that you look to do in a quarterback-school format this time of year.”

Prescott, 27, was leading the NFL with 1,856 passing yards when he sustained the injury on Oct. 11.

The two-time Pro Bowl selection was handed a four-to-six month recovery timetable.

“He’s surrounded by an excellent medical and strength and conditioning component,” McCarthy said. “He’s right where he needs to be for this time.”

Prescott put pen to paper on a four-year, $164 million contract with $126 million guaranteed last month.

In 69 starts over five seasons in Dallas, Prescott has a 42-27 record. He’s completed 66 percent of his passes for 17,634 yards with 106 touchdowns and 40 interceptions.
