Dolphins’ Jaylen Waddle, Phillip Lindsay set to come off COVID list

The Miami Dolphins are set to activate wide receiver Jaylen Waddle and running back Phillip Lindsay off the reserve/COVID-19 list Monday while announcing that wide receiver Will Fuller likely is done for the season.

Waddle and Lindsay missed Sunday’s victory over the New York Jets. The Dolphins won their sixth straight game as they try to break into the playoff picture.

Miami coach Brian Flores also announced Monday that Fuller had a setback in his recovery from a finger injury and likely will miss the rest of the season. Fuller has four catches for 26 yards in two games played. He signed a one-year deal with Miami worth $10.6 million last March.

Waddle, the team’s leader in catches (86) and receiving yards (849), will be back for the Dolphins’ Week 16 game against the New Orleans Saints. DeVante Parker was Miami’s leading receiver Sunday with four catches for 68 yards and a touchdown.

Lindsay will return to a running back corps that is at full strength and reportedly has added Duke Johnson to the 53-man roster. Johnson ran for 107 yards against the Jets after being elevated from the practice squad. Miami leading rusher Myles Gaskin returned from the COVID list to add 54 yards rushing.

Lindsay was signed off waivers from the Houston Texans on Nov. 24 and made his Miami debut against the Carolina Panthers four days later. He carried 12 times for 42 yards in Miami’s 33-10 win.

The Dolphins (7-7) need a victory at New Orleans (7-7) next Monday night to keep their longshot playoff hopes alive. As of Monday, the Dolphins are the 11th seed in the AFC.
