Dolphins put LT Austin Jackson, TE Adam Shaheen on COVID list

Miami Dolphins backup tight end Adam Shaheen tested positive for COVID-19 and will miss the team’s Week 1 game against New England, NFL Network reported Monday.

The Dolphins announced they put Shaheen and starting left tackle Austin Jackson on the reserve/COVID-19 list. Because Shaheen is unvaccinated, he’s out at least 10 days, per protocols. Shaheen has been outspoken against the vaccine.

It’s unclear if Jackson tested positive or is a close contact, and what his status is for Sunday; his vaccination status is not known.

This is Shaheen’s second time on the COVID-19 list in just over a month.

The Dolphins elevated cornerback Jamal Perry as a COVID replacement.

Jackson, 22, played in 13 games last season for the Dolphins, starting 12. The Dolphins selected him No. 18 overall in the 2020 draft.

Shaheen, 26, played in all 16 games for Miami last season, starting five. He had 12 catches for 150 yards and three touchdowns. He spent his first three NFL seasons in Chicago after being taken in the second round of the 2017 draft.
