Former NFL S Michael Huff donates food to weary Texas residents

As an NFL safety, Michael Huff built an eight-season career by delivering hard hits to opponents.

Now, instead of looking to punish, Huff is looking to provide. He donated thousands of meals to Texas residents on Thursday as the state continues to deal with frigid weather, power outages, lack of running water and other issues.

The former University of Texas star, who now works as the Longhorns’ assistant director of player development, announced his plans on Twitter.

“If you’re in Austin and need a hot meal and can safely make it to @DonJuanTaco, I’ve paid for 1,000 tacos in advance,” Huff wrote. “Let’s feed as many people as we can and only take what you need.”

A few hours later, Huff turned his focus to the Dallas region, purchasing 100 meals in advance at a Chick-fil-A in Irving, Texas, and another 100 meals at Cheddars in Irving.

Huff’s actions inspired others to announce restaurants where they had purchased meals in advance for anyone in need.

The 37-year-old Huff played in 118 games with the Oakland Raiders, Denver Broncos and Baltimore Ravens from 2006-13. He was the Raiders’ first-round pick (No. 7 overall) out of Texas in 2006.
