Giants QB Daniel Jones (neck) not practicing Wednesday

New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones did not practice Wednesday due to a sore neck.

“We’re day-to-day with him,” coach Brian Daboll told reporters before practice.

The Giants previously had been optimistic about Jones’ chances of playing at Buffalo this weekend.

“I think he’s moving in the right direction,” Daboll said Monday. “(We’ll) see where he is, obviously, when he comes back on Wednesday.”

Jones exited Sunday’s 31-16 loss to the Miami Dolphins after being sacked by Andrew Van Ginkel with 12:11 left in the game. The hit took Jones by surprise from his blind side, and his neck cocked backward before he was driven to the turf.

Tyrod Taylor took over under center for the Giants (1-4) and would be the starter Sunday against the Bills (3-2) if Jones is unable to play.

Jones, 26, completed 14 of 20 passes for 119 yards and was sacked six times against Miami. He has completed 68.9 percent of his passes for 884 yards with two touchdowns and six interceptions through five starts this season.

With Jones as the starter, the Giants are 22-35-1.
