Jaguars, RB Travis Etienne agree to contract
First-round draft pick Travis Etienne agreed to his four-year rookie contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars on Monday.
NFL Network reported Etienne’s deal, which includes a standard fifth-year option, would be official within 24 hours.
Negotiations with Etienne’s agent took longer than a typical deal for a player drafted in the back half of the first round and ultimately included no offset language with a significant amount of his signing bonus paid upfront.
Etienne was drafted No. 25 overall and worked at wide receiver and running back during minicamp. He was one of two first-round picks for the Jaguars, who selected Etienne’s Clemson teammate, quarterback Trevor Lawrence, at No. 1.
No offset language in a contract means if Etienne potentially signs with another team after being cut before the end of his rookie contract, there is no financial impact based on what he would have made in Jacksonville.
The Jaguars are scheduled to open their first season under coach Urban Meyer on Sept. 12 against the Texans in Houston.
