Jets DT Williams cleared of two felony gun charges
Jets defensive tackle Quinnen Williams was cleared of two felony gun charges stemming from a March arrest at New York’s LaGuardia Airport, multiple media outlets reported on Monday.
“As we said from the outset, this matter has been resolved with no criminal charges,” attorney Alex Spiro said in a statement. “This case was nothing more than a technical issue with the storing of a firearm, which is why the government gave Mr. Williams nothing more than a ticket.”
Williams, 22, was carrying a Glock 19 pistol in a carry-on bag when he was arrested March 5.
The gun was licensed in Alabama and not in New York, which doesn’t recognize issuances from other states.
Williams has recorded 16 tackles, two sacks and one forced fumble this season. He has collected 44 tackles and 4.5 sacks in 17 career games since being drafted third overall by the Jets in 2019.
Williams earned All-American accolades at the University of Alabama, where he won the Outland Trophy as the nation’s best interior lineman.
