Jets WR Mims away from team for personal matter
New York Jets rookie receiver Denzel Mims is not with the team due to a personal matter, coach Adam Gase said Wednesday.
The New York Post reported that Mims returned home to Texas to deal with a family emergency.
His status is uncertain for Sunday’s game in Seattle between the Jets (0-12) and Seahawks (8-4). If Mims does not get tested for COVID-19 on Wednesday, he would need to pass a series of tests before reentering team facilities, according to NFL protocols.
“He’s possibly going to be out of the (daily testing) protocol here,” Gase said, per NJ Advance Media. “We’ll see how today goes, but there’s a possibility that could throw him out of the game.”
Drafted in the second round (59th overall) out of Baylor in 2020, the 23-year-old Mims has 19 receptions for 324 yards with no touchdowns in six games this season. He caught two passes for 40 yards and also caught a two-point conversion pass in Sunday’s 31-28 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders.
