K Hauschka retires after 12-plus seasons

Veteran kicker Stephen Hauschka announced his retirement from the NFL at age 35.

He was released by the Jacksonville Jaguars on Oct. 12, a day after he missed both of his field-goal attempts against the Houston Texans, including a 24-yard try that he badly shanked.

Haushcka won a Super Bowl with the Seattle Seahawks and also kicked for the Baltimore Ravens, Denver Broncos and Buffalo Bills over 12-plus seasons.

He announced his retirement on Friday on social media.

“I started kicking a soccer ball at 3, switched to footballs at 19 and now at 35 I’m making the decision to hang up the cleats,” he wrote. “It’s been an amazing journey playing professional football the last 12+ years and when I reflect I feel grateful for all of it, the highs and the lows.”

He had his best season in 2013, hitting 33 of 35 field-goal attempts and all 44 of his point-after tries. He holds the Seattle record for field goals with 175.

In 166 career games, Hauschka connected on 264 of 310 field-goal attempts (85.2 percent) and 357 of 373 PATs (95.7 percent).
