Lamar Jackson still not practicing, Tyler Huntley throws for Ravens
Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson is trending toward missing his sixth straight game after he didn’t participate in practice on Thursday.
Fellow quarterback Tyler Huntley, however, resumed throwing in the open portion of practice on Thursday, three days ahead of Sunday’s AFC wild-card game at Cincinnati. Huntley is dealing with tendinitis in his right throwing shoulder as well as a wrist injury.
Baltimore has been without Jackson since Dec. 4 due to a sprained posterior cruciate ligament in his knee. Jackson, 26, has not been available for football activities, including 17 straight on-field practices, since the injury. The typical recovery time for the injury is four to six weeks.
Multiple reports indicate Jackson is limited by swelling, which impacts his lateral mobility and straight-line speed.
Huntley stepped in for Jackson in the first quarter of the Dec. 4 game against the Denver Broncos and likely would get the call against the Bengals on Sunday. He started the four subsequent games.
The Ravens beat the Broncos, 10-9, in their Week 13 game and haven’t cleared 17 points since losing Jackson.
Jackson joined cornerback Brandon Stephens (illness), long snapper Nick Moore (illness) and offensive lineman Trystan Colon (undisclosed) in failing to participate in practice on Thursday.
Guard Ben Powers, left tackle Ronnie Stanley, defensive end Calais Campbell, and outside linebackers Jason Pierre-Paul and Justin Houston participated in practice on Thursday, one day after observing a rest day.
Running back Gus Edwards (concussion) was spotted wearing a red non-contact jersey and a protective guardian cap on his helmet during Thursday’s session.
Baltimore dropped the regular-season finale to the Bengals, 27-16, and has lost three of the past four entering the playoffs. Anthony Brown started and played the whole game in place of Huntley last week. The Ravens beat the Bengals, 19-17, on Oct. 9.
