LB Todd Davis retires days after signing with Giants

Linebacker Todd Davis retired on Tuesday, just three days after signing with the New York Giants as a free agent.

The Giants announced that Davis had been placed on the reserve/retired list as the team began its first day of training in pads.

Davis, 29, had 35 tackles, one sack and two passes defensed in 11 games — six starts — for the Minnesota Vikings last season.

In 96 career games — 69 starts — with the New Orleans Saints (2014), Denver Broncos (2014-19) and Vikings, Davis has 505 tackles, three sacks, 15 passes defensed, two fumble recoveries and an interception, which he returned for a touchdown.

He finished with 114 and 134 tackles, respectively, over his last two seasons with Denver.

Undrafted out of Sacramento State in 2014, Davis has also appeared in four playoff games, including the Broncos’ victory over the Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl 50.
