Lions: D’Andre Swift, Michael Brockers ready for Week 1
Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell said Tuesday that running back D’Andre Swift and defensive end Michael Brockers “should be ready to go” for Week 1.
Swift, who missed the entire preseason with a groin injury, had been a question mark for the start of the season as recently as last week. The newly acquired Brockers took most of training camp off for precautionary reasons.
“We got all our guys back,” Campbell told radio station WXYT-FM on Tuesday. “Everybody’s getting healthy at the right time and we got them all going, so hopefully we’ll be clicking.”
Swift, 22, sits atop the Lions’ RB depth chart but is expected to split duties with Jamaal Williams, played the past four seasons with Green Bay. Swift rushed for 521 yards and eight touchdowns as a rookie in 2020. He also caught 46 passes for 357 yards and two scores.
Brockers, 30, enters his first season in Detroit after nine seasons with the St. Louis/Los Angeles Rams. He has 28 career sacks and 62 quarterback hits in 138 games (136 starts). He was traded to the Lions in March and signed a three-year, $24 million contract extension two days later.
The Lions open the season at home against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday.
