Lions’ Swift a gameday decision for Thanksgiving return

The Detroit Lions might get their leader in touchdowns back in the lineup in time to face the Houston Texans on Thanksgiving.

Running back D’Andre Swift was listed as questionable on the Lions’ injury report Wednesday, but he could start against Houston if he clears the NFL concussion protocol Thursday before the game.

Swift didn’t play in the Lions’ 20-0 loss to the Carolina Panthers last Sunday because of concussion symptoms. The Lions missed him, as they rushed for just 40 yards.

With the short week before Thursday’s game, the Lions didn’t practice Wednesday, instead holding two walkthroughs. Nonetheless, Swift was upgraded to questionable. Swift has six touchdowns this season, four rushing and two receiving. He has rushed 70 times for 331 yards, second to Adrian Peterson (389 yards on 104 carries). Swift has caught 31 passes for 275 yards.

Although the news about Swift was promising, the Lions still ruled out six players for the Texans game. Wide receiver Kenny Golladay (hip) remains out. Cornerback Jeff Okudah (shoulder), wide receiver Danny Amendola (hip), cornerback Mike Ford (concussion), defensive lineman Da’Shawn Hand (groin) and defensive end Austin Bryant (thigh) are also out.

Cornerback Amani Oruwariye (back) and linebacker Reggie Ragland (ankle) are questionable, along with Swift.
